In support of the police cordons, public-order officers and the Rapid Intervention Forces (FNSH), troops of the RENEA Special Forces have just arrived on the capital’s main thoroughfare.
Equipped with the heaviest protective gear and positioned alongside the water cannon trucks, the special forces are being deployed to the hottest points of the perimeter to take control of the situation.
The deployment of RENEA comes after a violent escalation of incidents, including Molotov cocktail attacks on police vehicles, the use of rubber bullets by officers and fierce hand-to-hand clashes with protesters.
